Newton, is a prestigious vibrant residential community, approximately 8 miles from downtown Boston and Cambridge. It’s close proximity to Logan Airport, Boston’s financial district, well-known Hospitals and Universities attracts a diverse population to Newton making the City of Newton unique.
Newton, known as “The Garden City”, is a family oriented community with an abundance of recreational facilities for children and adults of all ages. Playgrounds, tennis courts, Indoor, and outdoor swimming pools, a Community Boat Club that rents canoes, rowboats, and kayaks and a YMCA that has fabulous programs for Children and adults year-round. In addition, there are two public golf ranges. One is equipped to make artificial snow for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing throughout the winter months. There are many dog parks, walking trails and running courses. When Memorial Day arrives, the annual opening of Crystal Lake provides Newton residents a place to swim, relax and picnic.
The City of Newton is known for its superior school system that consistently ranks among the best in the nation. Newton’s Public Schools are a high priority. There are fifteen Elementary Schools, four middle schools and two High Schools. There are seven Private Schools and six colleges. Newton also provides school programs for Special Education students and an active Senior Center offering programs daily. There are forty-five Houses of Worship within the community.
Newton’s population is over 85 thousand residents. Due to the size of Newton, neighborhoods are called Villages. Each of the 14 Villages has different names, zip codes, a dedicated Elementary School, and a variety of architectural styles that may include spectacular Victorians, traditional brick Tudor’s, Colonials, Capes, mid-century Split Level’s, Ranches, Multi-Family homes, Condominiums, and Hi-rise Apartment buildings. The newest trend is to tear down an old home and recycle the land to build a new custom home. Land is sparse. Medical facilities are outstanding: Mass General / Newton Wellesley Hospital is located in the Village of Waban. Urgent Care Offices are located throughout the Town and are open daily. In addition, physicians are opening satellite offices in Medical Office Buildings in the local shopping malls.
A major highlight every April is when the runners participating in ” The Boston Marathon” run through Newton on Commonwealth Avenue. Thousands of spectators line the streets cheering the hundreds of runners as they pass by on their way to the finish line in Boston.
If you love to shop...Newton is the place to live. There are three new large shopping malls that provide high-end end department stores, specialty shops, restaurants galore, private label stores, two huge super markets, entertainment venues, Super Lux Movie Theater and sought after workout facilities: Equinox Fitness Center( Indoor lap Pool) and Life Time Athletic.
Public transportation is available but parking is challenging. There are two options. The MBTA trains that run through Newton to Boston or the Commuter Rail that goes to Boston on a strict schedule. If driving is your preference you can select the Mass Pike, Rt 128 or use side streets to your destination.
